Opening Night with Film Director Christopher Kirkley and Musician/Actor Mdou Moctar

Sponsored by Providence Health & Services

Portland director Christopher Kirkley and Nigerien musician Mdou Moctar collaborated to create this delightful Nigerien homage to Prince’s Purple Rain. Akounak also has the honor of being the first narrative feature film in the Tuareg language. Set in the rock-guitar scene in Agadez, Niger, it tells the universal story of one musician’s struggle to make it against all odds. Guitarist Mdou Moctar stars in his first film and will share his stories and music in a concert following the two screenings. In Tamashek with English subtitles.

The 9:15 p.m. screening will be followed with a concert at 11:15 p.m.
